Sonar & Bottom Mapping

Live multibeam point clouds rendered right beside your equipment and design surface — see depth conformance in context.

ClamVision color-scaled water depth surface over a channel with a real-time cross-section profile window showing the excavator against grade.

ClamVision integrates multibeam and single-beam sonar data directly into the dredging workflow, allowing crews to see a high-resolution picture of the bottom alongside their equipment position and design surface.

Real-time sonar display

When a multibeam sonar is connected, ClamVision renders the incoming swath data as a three-dimensional point cloud updated continuously as the vessel moves. The point cloud is displayed in the same 3D view as the design surface and equipment model, so depth conformance is immediately visible in context.

Sonar systems supported

  • R2Sonic — direct integration with R2Sonic 2020, 2022, and 2024 multibeam systems
  • Kongsberg EM series — KMall format real-time and file import
  • Teledyne Reson — S7K format real-time and file import
  • Nordredge — specialized dredge multibeam interface
  • Generic single-beam — any echo sounder outputting NMEA depth sentences

Sonar data logging and export

All sonar data received by ClamVision is logged to disk in a time-stamped archive. Logged sonar data can be:

  • Replayed for post-processing or training
  • Exported as XYZ point files for import into third-party hydrographic processing software
  • Used to update the current work surface for volume calculations
  • Compared against the design surface to identify remaining material

Combined bite and sonar surfaces

ClamVision allows the current work surface to be built from a combination of bite positions and sonar soundings. In areas where the sonar has good coverage, sonar data provides a detailed surface. In areas where the sonar has poor coverage (immediately under the vessel or in confined areas), bite positions fill in the gaps.
